First-Year Experience

1. Everyone starts in a different place. Our faculty want to know where you're coming from, value you as a person, and help you grow from there.
2. Learning is about more than grades. At Madonna, we care about your growth intellectually, spiritually, and personally. You'll see how diferent subjects connect to each other and to real life.
3. You're in charge of your learning, and help is always available. In UNV 1020, you'll learn about the tutoring and academic support services on campus, and we'll encourage you to use them whenever you hit a rough patch.
4. Giving back matters. Service to others is part of who we are, rooted in Catholic social teachingand the example of St. Francis of Assisi. Every UNV 1020 student takes part in a service-learning project.
5. Knowing your school helps you feel at home. From admissions through your first two semesters, you'll learn about Madonna's history, tradition, and values.

UNV 1020 is a 2-credit class that helps you make the move from high school to college.

You’re required to take UNV 1020 if you’re under 24 and have fewer than 13 college transfer credits. AP, IB, Dual Enrollment, and Middle College credits don’t count toward that 13.

• Get help with the common challenges of starting college
• Explore interesting ideas while building your critical thinking, research, writing, and presentation skills
• Get to know a group of classmates
• Complete a service-learning project as part of Madonna’s mission of service
